A New Singapore in India - Innovative Economics

Countries like Dubai and Singapore have prospered hugely because they have been virtually free economic zones, with easy business laws and free movement of goods; it is not difficult for other countries that have offshore islands to duplicate the feat over defined limited regions. In this lies a great opportunity for India if it were to declare a part of the Andaman and Nicobar islands as a free economic zone while reserving a part of it for its security needs and tribal considerations while also some as a protected natural reserve. With an area more than ten times of Singapore there is enough to do all of this and more. In fact India can go further by permitting visa free entry for citizens of two small countries, Singapore and New Zealand to new Singapore as it does for Nepal in rest of India. Businessmen from such countries may then quickly help develop the infrastructure rapidly. In case India considers this concept; it should duplicate the laws and regulation of Singapore in the zone in order to have similar development. The zone could then even be named New Singapore. it would bring great technological and economic benefits for both India and Singapore.

The territory's capital is the Andamanese town of Port Blair. The total land area of the territory is approximately 8,073 km2 (3,117 sq mi). The capital of Nicobar Islands is Car Nicobar. In close geographical proximity, Singapore is one of the world's major commercial hubs, with the fourth-biggest financial centre and one of the five busiest ports with an area of  around 718 km square, an area that is less than one tenth of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. India has a new inspiring government now of Shri Narendra Modi and an enterprising finance Minster, Shri Arun Jaitley that can rapidly implement this idea, once it comes to their notice. This blogger intends to do this through the mygov platform Shri Modi has launched to capture ideas, as well as on twitter. If any help is required from this author for the educational and inspirational side of the concept, he would be more than happy to do so.

The first step towards implementing this project should be to establish a commission consisting of survey of India member, Members from the forces, Nicobar administration, an environmental body of the region, a ports authority member, and an invitee each from Singapore and New Zealand, as well others deemed necessary and fit. The commission would demarcate areas and identify the area most suitable for the proposed New Singapore as well as members of a new panel to develop the business plan.

If the citizens of just two countries, Singapore and New Zealand are allowed to purchase property and do business aside from Indians, in New Singapore, the place would develop at a rapid pace. Inclusion of New Zealand would give a more International color to the culture. In Singapore the dominant color is Chinese. However, both countries are least corruption affected countries in the world with high quality of prosperity and life respectively, some of the highest in the world.

How to build a toilet for less than a few thousand rupees or twenty dollars – and stop open defecation

The Septic Drain T hose who live in developed countries may be surprised to learn that a large part of the human population lives without a toilet. Put crudely they simply piss and shit out in the open. In India it is estimated that half the population does that. This is all the more tragic in a country that invented toilets, bathrooms and covered drains five thousand years ago in the Indus Valley civilization ( http://alienaccount.blogspot.in/2013/09/indus-valley-and-atlantis.html ). Since then though, a lot of piss and water has passed under the bridge with a slide into poverty and decay. Aside from the inconvenience of having to run out into the fields every now and then, the phenomenon of open defecation poses some serious issues that have only increased with an increase of population density on the planet. First are health issues. When it rains the waste is washed into drains, rivulets, rivers, ponds and lakes. Water sources are then charged with disease causing bac...
