  Every year much rice straw is burnt in the fields causing much pollution in Northern India. However rice straw can be put to good use for many products, one of then being paper. A preliminary estimate by this author suggests that a mix of half and half rice straw and Bagasse, the residue left after crushing sugarcane to extract juice can produce good quality paper for printing and writing as also for boxes and newspaper. For every ton of sugarcane crushed approximately 30% tonnes of wet bagasse is produced. Adding 10% cotton fiber to the mix will yield high quality printing and document paper whereas adding 10% polyester fiber could yield quality paper for carry bags that may be used to replace plastic bags in current use. Standardizing design of glass bottles to minimize use of plastics. While plastics are a great convenience, plastic pollution has become a major concern for the world. Throw away plastic bags and bottles are clogging drains, polluting rivers and oceans. Items like plastic furniture and containers do not create much problem because they have long-term use and are easy to recycle. It is things like shopping bags and numerous bottles for water and cold drinks that are a major source of pollution. Attempts are underway around the world to ban their use and return to old-fashioned paper and cloth shopping bags as well as glass bottles. An outright ban on manufacture, sale and distribution of plastic bags with heavy penalties for manufacturers and lesser ones for other users will rapidly bring an end to plastic bags. Ma Ganga brings peace and prosperity to the lands it flows through when it flows pure .When pollution is added to Ma Ganga, crime and poverty spreads across the lands it flows through in direct proportion to the pollution   It is very sad that the river Ganga that flows through Northern India has become highly polluted since seventy years ever since India became independent. Over these seventy years the pollution has increased every year the government has spent enormous amounts of money to clean it perhaps in direct proportion to the money spent. Ma Ganga in Varanasi W ith increasing population the once pure river Ganges has become a highly polluted river. The current government is seized with the problem. This note contains two brief suggestions towards this end. The solutions are such that they can be implemented within a year with low expenditure to purify the sacred river. The Problem of Religious Waste Many religious items are discarded in the Ganges after religious ceremonies because to discard such items in flowing water that lead to the oceans is the most respected way. However, these are also causing pollution therefore a method is suggested here that will preserve both the purity of Ma Ganga and religious sentiments as well. The solution is to install incineration plants on the banks of the river in religious towns so that the items are first pulverized and then incinerated before the ashes and pulverized materials are discarded in the Ganges through a continuous conveyor belt system.
