The Ultimate Book Reader, You Book or U Book

Electronic books are a great idea because

  1. They cost much less to produce
  2. Save resources such as trees
  3. Can be procured quick as a download
  4. can be searched electronically
  5. Need very little space to store entire libraries
  6. Students can procure their lot of text books as a pen drive or download

However, traditional books have an advantage in that one can open two pages at a time. Therefore this note presents the concept of a new book reader that reads like a traditional book. It has dual touch screens hinged in the middle so that they can be folded and closed like a book. Dual touch screen devices do exist but it does not seem that they are designed and sized specifically as a book reader. Two pages at a time can appear on a single screen but they do not fold like pages of a real book. The hope is that this blog post would catch the eye of a manufacturer or a consortium and it will take off. If they are hesitant that it would be a copyright infringement they can contact this author and he shall grant them the rights and even share more ideas about it if they require, perhaps for only a small fee. The new device has been called here You Book or U Book but may be given any name

In book reading positions the book reader screens would display a book shelf on the left screen that may be scrolled to select a book and the front or back cover of a preselected book on the right screen. Or it will display an odd page and an even page of a book that is being read and was left without being finished there on last count. If a book is closed in the middle of reading, by default it would open at the same page when you open the reader again. The device will switch off every time the book is closed and light up when opened.

In a different position the U Book would function as a small note book computer where the left part will automatically convert to a key board.

The device would need some USB ports on the edges to connect other devices and it may also have a camera and inbuilt speaker depending upon the model. It may simultaneously function as a mobile phone. With a neat sling bag this would be an ideal device for students or any book buff.

An addition advantage can be a news paper subscription that updates daily specifically for the U Book format. The width of such a device may vary between 5 to 7 inches and height between 8 to 10 inches. That should cover most books and larger ones would have to be scrolled or viewed in a smaller font.  A highlighter pen tool would be an excellent aid for students.
