Villages, Towns and Cities of the Future – Smart and Green

Public Transportation driven by Solar electricity.
Most humans continue to live in villages, towns and cities of a bygone era compromised by over development. In the meantime, there have been huge changes in technology, life styles and human aspirations over the last few decades. It goes without saying that existing designs are not optimal for future lifestyles. Therefore, whenever a new city, town or village is established a completely fresh approach is required.

One of the considerations required in future settlements is the ability to be able to connect to information highways of the world, not just cities but all human settlements that include villages. Further while villages would like to avail of services that are available in urban areas, new towns and cities would like to avail of green spaces that are available in rural areas. The new cities of the future have to be both smart and green, while new rural areas have to be smart as well.

It is also necessary to configure future layouts of settlements so that they are eminently suited for public transportation, minimal commuting and the possibility of installing individual solar photo voltaic systems linked to a grid that makes up for short falls or sucks in surpluses.

With an increased human population, it is imperative that while green areas are integrated within human settlements, they are put to productive agricultural and horticultural use. Thus while it is not practical and economical to have a wheat farm or diary within a city, it will be shown that it is perfectly feasible and even economical to have orchard and vegetable farming spaces integrated within a city. It goes without saying that urban sewerage and other waste would be utilized in the farms and the non-compost, non- recyclable waste will be incinerated on the outskirts for thermal power to add to the grid

Another critical consideration for future settlements is the proper recycling of waste water and collection of rain water.

Very sadly some engineers lacking in full technical knowledge of the process have proposed rain water harvesting systems in cities that harm rather than benefit mankind. Some of these harmful practices have even been worked into city regulations by unsuspecting politicians.  They propose collecting and directing rain water through bore holes into ground. This is the quickest way to destroy available drinking water supplies for mankind because in this method surface pollution is added to sub soil water, thereby destroying its potable quality.
The proper way to store rain water is in surface ponds and lakes so that it percolates slowly and naturally into ground, whereby through both bacterial action and ground filtration, it converts into potable sub soil water which may then be pumped out and used as potable water with minimal treatment.

That is how nature has been doing it for millions of years. Humans just need to add to the process, not change it. Thus the existence of water bodies in and around cities and villages is a need of the times and combining it with blue water fish farming is also a natural addition that aids appropriate natural processes.

What might be the layout of such new cities towns and villages of the future? This author has worked on such layouts over the past three years and some of the links to this work are given below:

Urban Layouts
Town Layouts
Rural Layouts

The New Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi has envisioned such smart cities and villages already and a link of this blog post shall be communicated to him as a voluntary contribution for India by this blogger. However these designs have applications all over the world and whereas advanced countries would benefit from the town design (Its link has been communicated to the US speaker John Boehner already as a job creation measure) developing countries would benefit more from the urban and rural design. (This author has received education, lived and practiced his technical profession in both the developed and developing world aside from the intermediate world of Middle East.)

On Revival of Soma plant of Rig Veda

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Path_between_sugar_canes_%285216462193%29.jpg Similar Document also available for view or download at: https://www.scribd.com/doc/290825034/On-Revival-of-Soma-plant-of-Rig-Veda Abstract An ancient plant was described as a god amongst plants in the Rig Veda, an ancient sacred text of Indo-Aryans. The proper identification of this plant has been lost to mankind since ancient times. Scholars have made several diverse attempts to identify what this plant might be but none of the proposals come near the original Soma plant. In the present note a possible identification of this plant is made with a likely extinct variety of a sugar cane plant. It is suggested how an existing varieties may be genetically modified to yield a variety close to original Soma 1. Introduction There was a plant of earth that grew around the Himalayas known as Soma. It was regarded by ancient Indo-Aryans as godly plant. Ancient Indo-Aryans...

How to build a toilet for less than a few thousand rupees or twenty dollars – and stop open defecation

The Septic Drain T hose who live in developed countries may be surprised to learn that a large part of the human population lives without a toilet. Put crudely they simply piss and shit out in the open. In India it is estimated that half the population does that. This is all the more tragic in a country that invented toilets, bathrooms and covered drains five thousand years ago in the Indus Valley civilization ( http://alienaccount.blogspot.in/2013/09/indus-valley-and-atlantis.html ). Since then though, a lot of piss and water has passed under the bridge with a slide into poverty and decay. Aside from the inconvenience of having to run out into the fields every now and then, the phenomenon of open defecation poses some serious issues that have only increased with an increase of population density on the planet. First are health issues. When it rains the waste is washed into drains, rivulets, rivers, ponds and lakes. Water sources are then charged with disease causing bac...
