Design of the Parliament Building, India

L egislative power in India is exercised by the Parliament, a legislature consisting of the President of India and the two houses of Parliament. The image above shows the parliament building ( Sansad Bhavan). However, when one looks at the building a feeling arises at times that there might be something architecturally incomplete in the building. Perhaps the designer had a second phase of construction in mind. This author tried to imagine what it might be and came up with the following design. It is a preliminary attempt and if ever taken up the dimensions of the dome may be re-examined. Recently members of parliament have expressed the need for more space too. Such an addition would provide the extra space as well as make the Parliament House design more compatible with other surrounding building in the capital. I

Main Stream Media and the World - And Bernie Sanders

There was a time when all people had for news about the world had been main stream media with an occasional word of mouth story thrown in. Things have changed since then with advent of the internet. Now people have that for getting news and views too, at least those who have frequent access to it. There is a huge problem with mainstream media. In authoritarian countries it pushes a colored narrative of ruling powers. In compromised democracies it may just close a media house that opposes a ruler as seems to have happened in Turkey yesterday. In the best of democracies too media is not free of undesirable influences. For example in UK the BBC habitually refers to refugees fleeing violence as migrants and not refugees. This has implications in the way fleeing persons are treated because different international treaties and obligations apply to refugees and migrants.
